UNEARTHLY

Originally inspired by Derek Jarman’s film Blue, Unearthly is a dance-based installation which reveals the manifold properties of the colour blue. The work was designed specially for the Raphael Cartoons gallery at the Victoria & Albert Museum as part of their 2024 performance festival.

Thick & Tight view blue through a queer lens; exploring the colour’s rarity within nature; the impossibility to capture or recreate it; its universality and omnipresence but also its ‘unnatural’ qualities; its historical importance in art and its current geopolitical implications. Once you’ve seen Unearthly, expect to view the colour blue in a new hue.
