VOICES
The Royal Opera House commissioned Thick & Tight to make work for a Pride event for children in 2022, as part of their Family Sunday programme.

We worked with regular collaborators Corali Dance Company and put out a call to staff at the Royal Opera House, asking if anyone would be willing to be interviewed about what Pride means to them.
We were delighted and very grateful that some of the LGBTQI+ people who work at the ROH did come forward to talk to us. We’d like to thank them very much for being so generous and open with us.

We edited the interviews together to create a woven tapestry of sound, revealing experiences and attitudes of people from the ROH’s LGBTQ+ community. The words were interpreted by 4 dancers; Patricia Langa, DJ Hassan, Eleanor Perry and Daniel-Hay-Gordon.

The work can also exist as a video and sound installation without the dancers.
We know that there are many different experiences of Pride and this work only presents certain perspectives - but we hope that it goes towards encouraging more open conversation and understanding within the Royal Opera House and among their audiences.
